Get Off The Couch

So, there we sit, watching the game.  Arguing with calls made, shouting instructions to players, disagreeing with the coach.  Coke in one hand, chips in the other, sitting on our couch, walled in by things that make us comfortable and safe.  We do it watching the game, we do it watching people, we do it evaluating decisions other people make, we do it with life.  we sit on the couch and coach.

The greatest coach who ever lived said to a couple of “couch-coaches” on day, “follow me”.

Two simple words that can change your life forever.  Translated into our form of language it means:

“Get off the couch and get into the game.”

“Quit being a spectator and start being a participant.”

“Don’t just sit and criticize, do something.”

“Let’s help them make life better.”

“Do what I do.  Make a difference.”

Let me give you 5 tips to making a real difference in “coaching” someone else:

1.  Invest in someones life.  Spend time with them. Get to know them.  Listen to them.

2. Learn the power of positive reinforcement.  Say something positive every time you think of something negative.

3. Don’t tell them what to do, show them, help them think it through.  Let it be their idea.

4. Accept them as they are, not as you want them to be.

5. Realize that you are in a “partnership”.  Success belongs to both of you.
