Do you ever just run out of energy and you have a hard time moving forward? I do, all the time. The alarm goes off in the morning, and the last thing I want to do is get out of bed. Of course some days are better than others, but I’ve been thinking about what keeps me motivated, what pushes me to get out of bed in the morning. Here are some things I’m learning about myself and I thought I’d share them with you to see if you resonate with any of them:
#1) I get motivated when I have a FOCUSED GOAL in mind.
There is a lot of stuff I’m trying to accomplish, and sometimes things get really mixed up. When I can prioritize and wake up knowing what I need to do, it helps me to get going.
Do you have goals? Are you pursuing them? Are they SMART Goals?
#2) I get motivated when I see RESULTS.
Nothing inspires me more than seeing a change in someone’s life, seeing progress towards a project or seeing the impact. That motivates me. Often I don’t stop long enough to evaluate the results or measure the results. When I do, I’m motivated to do more.
Do you look at the results of your work? Do you evaluate and measure your impact? Do you have evaluation questions?
#3) I get motivated when I have people around me ENCOURAGING ME.
There’s nothing like support and encouragement from others. Someone simply says “good job”, or someone asks, “have you lost weight?” That’s motivating. I need people challenging me, supporting me, pushing me and encouraging me.
Do you have people around you that are doing this? Are you doing this for others?
#4) I get motivated when I take my eyes off of MYSELF.
I have to remember that it’s not about me. I’m here on this earth for a purpose, and when I get absorbed in all my problems, all my struggles and all my failures, I get discouraged and I want to quit. When I’m able to take my eyes off of myself and see the “big picture”, I remember that God has a purpose and a plan for my life and I’m motivated to pursue that purpose and plan.
Do you only see yourself? Have you seen His plan for your life?
#5) I get motivated when I stay FOCUSED.
How many times have you started something, only to get distracted along the way and you forget what it is that you wanted to accomplish. A clear focus will help you reach your goals. Focus will help you stay in alignment. Focus will help you see results. Focus will keep you disciplined. Focus will motivate you.
Are you a focused person? Can you stay on track or do you wander around?
Today, I want to be motivated to do all that I’ve been created to do. What about you?
