On Being Busy

Being busy is not a sign of success.  It’s a sign of your inability to manage your own life effectively!

Here are 10 things to do to help you learn how to manage your “busyness”:

#1)  Stop.  In order to evaluate your life, you need to stop moving so fast.  Take a deep breath and do some serious evaluation!

#2)  Create Smart Goals.  You need to be working towards something.  Write down what it is you want to accomplish and work towards that.

#3)  Surround Yourself.  Surround yourself with people that have more experience than you do, and learn to listen to them.

#4)  Schedule.  Learn to create and manage your schedule.  Create blocks to work on projects.  Create time to think and dream. Don’t fill your schedule so full that you don’t have any margin.  Know your limits.

#5)  Ask & Listen.  Learn from others.  Don’t think you have to figure everything out on your own.

#6)  Manage.  Look at areas of your life that are out of control and make the changes needed.  Don’t keep making the same mistakes.  Learn from your mistakes and adjust.

#7)  Say No.  Learn to say “NO”.  You can’t do everything.  Know what you can and can’t do, and don’t be afraid to so no to something, even if it’s a great opportunity.

#8)  Stay Aligned.  Be true to your calling, your purpose, your vision.  Don’t get distracted.  Just because it’s good doesn’t mean you have to do it.  Continually check your alignment.

#9)  Use Your Gifts.  Know who God created you to be and use those gifts, those passions, those skills.  Don’t miss being who you are.

#10) Evaluate and Start Again.  Continually evaluate what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what you need to change.  Don’t get stuck and don’t settle.  Don’t be afraid to do something different.
