A very successful consultant worked for some of the largest corporations in the country.
Returning from a 4 week overseas trip, she found 1200 emails in her in-box. Overwhelmed, she highlighted all 1200 and hit delete.
A few minutes later, she second guessed the wisdom of that. She waited for the flurry of emails asking why she hadn’t responded.
But out of the 1200 deleted emails, not once did she hear from someone questioning her lack of response.
It was a great lesson for her…and for me because we place so much emphasis on being available and responding quickly.
The tyranny of the urgent puts a lot of pressure on us. Take your eyes off the immediate and the urgent.
