Simple Ways to Encourage

imagesI have a file in my office that has been with me for almost 30 years. It’s a green file folder with a smiley face on the tab, and it’s stuffed full of notes that I’ve received from people over the past 30 years that I was able to encourage in some way.

I don’t have a file with a “sad face” on it. Those notes I process and get rid of quickly.

Some days, when things are tough, I open that green file folder and am easily reminded of some times in my life that I’ve been able to encourage others.

Why is it so much easier to tear people down, rather than build them up?

Why don’t we take more time to write notes of appreciation to people who have gone out of their way to encourage us and affirm us?

I want to do more of this, because I know how important this is to all of us, how important it is to me!

Dave Cheong shares 8 simple things you can do to encourage others.  Keep it simple!

#1) Show Genuine Interest

#2) Acknowledge What’s Important to Them

#3) Say “Well Done”

#4) Say “Thank You”

#5) Reciprocate the Favour

#6) Respond with Something Unexpected

#7) Ask for Advice or Confide in Them

#8) Offer to Lend a Hand

These things just take a few moments of your time, but they’ll make a huge difference.

Go out of your way to encourage others.
