The older I get, the more I learn about myself.
When I was younger, I thought that if I had enough confidence and if I worked hard enough, I could do anything I wanted to do.
As I get older, I now realize that I don’t want to do everything. I want to spend more time doing the things that I really want to do, and doing the things that I’m passionate about.
Marcus Buckingham, in his book, “Now Discover Your Strengths“, challenges leaders to figure out what they are good at, then try to spend more time each day working in your strengths. This is how to get the BEST from people.
This is what I want.
I know I don’t only get to do the things I want to do, or the things I’m gifted in, but I do know that when I work in areas of giftedness, it fills me up. I’m happier, I’m fulfilled, I’m satisfied and I’m energized. I want to spend as much time as I can in areas of strength.
This leads us to passion.
When your strengths and your passion collide, there is “COMBUSTION“. Something ignites in you, something happens that is really hard to explain.
I’m learning more and more everyday about my strengths and my passion. I want to be the best that I can be, and I want to be used to make a impact, to change lives.
This week, I’m walking into a leadership event, and I’ll spend 4 days with a group of leaders from around the world. I’ve been preparing for this event for the past 5 months. It’s been hours of logistical planning, trying to get 34 leaders into the same room from 10 different countries is a challenge. Planning training sessions, coordinating with other presenters, raising the funds needed, and preparing the resources and the schedule. It’s been a load, but it’s been incredible.
I’ve learned that I can put up with any amount of work if it’s connected to my passion. I’ve done this work with joy, with excitement and with energy. If I do this work, then the leaders come, then I get to do what I believe I was created to to: Teach, Train & Coach Leaders.
This is my passion. I want to invest into the lives of leaders, not because I have all the answers, but because I know what it’s like to be a lonely leader, I know what it’s like to not know what to do next. I’ve learned so much from my mistakes and my failures, and I want to come alongside leaders so that they can grow and develop into better leaders. I want to coach leaders as they go through difficulty or as their organization goes through growth. I want leaders to feel that they are a part of something much bigger than themselves.
Why do you get out of bed in the morning?
Jim Collins, in his book, “Good to Great“, finds that companies that are able to focus on the things that they’re passionate about, last. They are better companies, they have been teams of people working with them, and they care about what they’re doing.
What are you passionate about? What are your strengths? How can you spend more time each day in these areas?
For me, there are 4 things that I’m focusing on:
My passion is to position leaders and organizations for greater global impact.
In order to do that, I have to come at it in as many ways possible:
*I spend time creating resources for our Leadon Esource pages. I want to provide as many tools as possible, especially for people that don’t have access to leadership resources. We have a team of people that are contributing and helping us create content that people are accessing around the world. Visit our pages. CLICK HERE.
*I spend time creating leadership communities with Leader Mundial and Extreme Response. We bring leaders together to provide 4 things: Training, Resources, Coaching and Community. This year we’ll hold these communities in Ecuador, Philippines, South Africa, United States and in Indonesia. You can be a part of these communities by visiting HERE.
*I spend time personally coaching leaders. Whether it’s helping to develop their board, their vision or their strategy for vision, every leader needs someone to process this with. If you’d like some help in your leadership development, SEND ME A NOTE: firstname.lastname@example.org
*I spend time living out what I’m learning and what I believe. I want my family to know that they’re valued, I want to invest in these relationships. I want the Lord to lead me and guide me and to show me where He wants me to spend my time and energy. I want to do my best.
I’ve got a ways to go, we all have. Don’t ever feel that you’ve “arrived”. We’re all in process.
What are you doing to live out YOUR passion? What makes YOU tick?
